HEALING CONTRACT
I, ________________________________, understand that though therapy is a co-operation between client and therapist, the ultimate responsibility for healing lies within me. Rather than being the passive recipient of transformation, I am entering this work in order to awaken the inner strengths and resources that already exist inside of me. Because “people are people through people,[1]” I am seeking partnership in an effort to become the most authentic version of myself. But I understand that the crux of my healing will take place between therapy sessions, as I invite hidden parts of myself to emerge and learn to rely upon my own Wise Mind[2].

[1] This Zulu proverb, Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu, reflects the African traditional teaching that being human is both the process and product of interconnectedness through community.
[2] The concept of Wise Mind was created by Dr. Marsha Linehan as a core component of Dialectical Behavior Therapy. It is the balanced part of us that comprises our inner knowledge and intuition, emotional thinking, and rational thinking.
